Welcome to the Cardenden Green Community page
Welcome to the Cardenden community homepage. This portal aims to promote the aims and aspirations of a number of renewable energy projects under development in and around Cardenden and help the community to get involved in these developments.
Cardenden Heat and Power (CHAP) is a large-scale biomass-fed renewable heating scheme under development by Ore Valley Housing Association and Fife Council. The scheme will deliver heat and hot water to local residents via a network of hot water pipes to be installed throughout the town. The heat will be generated by using wood supplies drawn from the local area whilst excess electricity generated as part of the heat generation process will be sold back to the national grid. Homeowners will benefit from cheaper and greener heating and hot water available on-demand all year round.
Fife Community Wind is a wind turbine project under development across Fife by Ore Valley Housing Association, one part of which will be located on the southern edge of Cardenden. The intention is to install community-owned turbines that will generate electricity to be sold back to the grid. The profits will then be split equally between a 'community chest' project fund for local activities and improvements in social housing provision in the area.
Cardenden Community Broadband is a fibre-optic network being developed by OVHA and Fife Council to run alongside the heat network planned for CHAP. The aim for this project is for it to deliver high speed internet access and services to the community at a cost below current market prices.
