Low carbon technology
Innovations in vehicle manufacturing such as new materials, more efficient engines and hybrid technology are helping to reduce emissions, as are alternative fuels. But research and development is expensive and risky for any company. That's why the Department of Transport supported the Low Carbon Research and Development Grant by encouraging organisations to explore and develop viable alternative technologies that can become part of mainstream commercial planning in the next future.
The over the lifetime of the programme 2005-2010, 16 highly innovative projects were supported. Read about the completed projects here.
New funding in this area is available through the Technology Strategy Board's Low Carbon Vehicle Innovation Platform.
